Phoenix, AZ – Mom Killed, Four-Year-Old Critical After Collision With Speeding Driver on Southern Ave

Phoenix, AZ (April 12, 2022) – An 18-year-old was operating a vehicle at more than 100 mph on Tuesday, April 12th seconds before causing an accident that killed a woman and left her young daughter clinging to life. 

At about 8:00 p.m., the suspect, Eulalio Juarez Rodriguez, was driving a Camero at an excessively high rate of speed westbound on Southern Avenue when he crashed into a Hyundai that was making a lefthand turn onto 32nd Avenue in Phoenix. 

The driver of the Hyundai, which was launched into a power pole, died at the scene. 

Her 4-year-old daughter, who was properly restrained in the back seat, was taken to an area hospital in extremely critical condition.

An investigation determined that the Camaro was going about 115 mph 2.5 seconds before the collision and 88 mph half a second before impact. The speed limit on that stretch of Southern Avenue is 45 mph.

Rodriguez has been charged with manslaughter. Police do not believe impairment was a factor.

No other details were immediately available.
