Fatal Car Accidents in Arizona

Despite the fact that the number of accidents decreased nearly 24% during 2020, the number of fatal accidents saw an unpleasant increase. In fact, a total of 1,057 people were fatally injured in traffic-related incidents in the state of Arizona during 2020. This number was up more than 9% from 2019.

There are many reasons why fatal accidents take place in our state. However, studies have routinely found that some form of negligence was involved in more than 80% of crashes. We see far too many people in our state lose their lives in accidents due to the actions of other drivers. Some of the most common causes of fatal accidents include:

  • Driving while impaired: Nearly 4.56% of total crashes in our state involved driving while under the influence of alcohol. More than 17% of all fatal crashes involved at least one driver who was impaired.
  • Distractions: More than 9% of fatal crashes in Arizona involve at least one driver who was distracted. When drivers text, change the radio or reach for objects in their vehicles, they take their attention off the road ahead.
  • Speeding: Studies show that more than 31% of all fatal accidents in our state involve speeding.

Regardless of the fact that these actions are completely negligent, and there are several laws in place to prevent drivers from engaging in this type of behavior, we continue to see innocent people impacted by these and other acts of negligence. When victims lose their lives in accidents, it is crucial that their families seek the guidance of a wrongful death lawyer in Phoenix right away.
