Phoenix, AZ (May 23, 2022) – One person died and two more sustained injuries in a three-vehicle collision that shut down the northbound lanes of Interstate 17 in Phoenix for several hours on Monday, May 23rd.

The interstate was closed off at Cactus Road at about 4:30 a.m. after a Toyota Camry stalled out and was struck from behind by a Tesla.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety said that the driver of the Tesla, a 49-year-old woman, attempted to exit her vehicle causing both driver and car to be struck by a Honda Pilot, which was immediately abandoned by the three men inside, as they fled the scene on foot.

The unidentified Tesla driver died at the scene. The three men from the Honda were later apprehended by police.

The female driver of the Toyota and one of the men from the Honda were taken to an area hospital for treatment of non-critical injuries.

The area remained closed until 11:30 a.m.

No other information is available.

We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.

Vehicle Collisions in Arizona

Motor vehicle accidents happen for a lot of reasons. Outside influences, like bad weather, frequently result in hazardous driving conditions and cause drivers to lose control of their vehicles. In most cases, at its heart, a car crash is ultimately due to the reckless, negligent, or nefarious actions of another driver.

Taking into account the manifold contemporary technological advancements at our fingertips like car radios with remote controls, mobile phones, and satellite navigation systems, there is no shortage of things to pull a driver’s attention off of their surroundings than ever before. This suggests that motorists are paying less attention to the roadway and the other people and vehicles with whom they share it.

These distractions, when melded with basic human error and behavior that is just plain negligent, have caused a sharp rise in our state’s yearly vehicle collision total and an uptick in the overall total of serious accident-related injuries.

Driving while distracted and other types of reckless behavior also lead motorists to disregard rudimentary driving rules and regulations. Feeling complacent, they run red lights, drive perilously fast, and even strike bicyclists, pedestrians, and even other vehicles.

In Arizona, determining the exact cause of your auto accident is absolutely crucial if you plan on filing a claim for damages through your insurer. Like many other states across the country, Arizona follows standard fault laws where traffic accidents are concerned. So your Phoenix personal injury lawyer will be required to prove fault on the part of another person or entity before you will be eligible to file a claim. Fault for a car accident could lie with one or more parties or entities depending on the cause.

When an accident caused by someone’s negligence leaves you with serious injuries, you need to meet with a reliable car accident lawyer as soon as possible. Most collision victims are awarded compensation that is meant to help alleviate monetary hardships generated by their injuries.
