Mesa, AZ (August 03, 2022) – Two people sustained injuries during a motor vehicle collision that occurred on Monday, August 3rd involving the Valley Metro light rail and a passenger vehicle.
Officers from the Mesa Police Department said that the accident took place in the area of Main Street and Roosevelt Street when a Toyota and a light rail car collided for reasons that are still unknown.
The occupants of the Toyota sustained unspecified injuries. They were transported by ambulance to a local hospital in non-critical condition.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families at this time. We hope for their full recovery.
When someone mentions a train accident, most people envision two trains crashing into one another or a train derailing in a major calamity. Most train accidents, however, involve passenger vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists who end up severely injured or killed after being struck by trains, especially at railroad crossings.
Some train accidents are the result of inadequate safety precautions at train crossings, many of which lack signs and auditory warnings. Motorists, bicyclists, motorcyclists, and pedestrians are not allowed to be on the tracks when a train is approaching, but, in the absence of any warning, they can put themselves in danger without even knowing it.
Arizona is fortunate enough to have an excellent public transportation system. One of its best-known modes of public transport is its light rail system, which provides easy transportation to thousands of residents. Given the rising popularity of the light rail and its increasing presence around Phoenix, residents are exposed to several new dangers.
Injuries have resulted from people boarding and exiting light rail cars, vehicles being hit, and cyclists and pedestrians being struck by light rail cars.
Injuries arising from train accidents are typically quite serious and can include spinal cord damage, neck and back injuries, traumatic brain injuries, broken or crushed joints or limbs, serious burns, amputations, and other serious traumas that require long–term rehabilitation or a lifetime of care.
