Causes of Arizona Bicycle Accidents
If your bicycle accident and subsequent serious or fatal injuries were due to one or more of these reasons, you could be eligible to bring a personal injury claim against the driver of the vehicle for your injuries and other accident-related damages.
Some other common elements that contribute to bike accidents in the area are:
- Drivers who are under the influence
- Drivers who are distracted
- Drivers failing to yield the right of way
- Drivers entering the bicycle lane
- Dooring (when the passenger door of a parked car opens, hitting a cyclist)
- Drivers disregarding stop signs or traffic lights
- Drivers traveling at excessively high speeds
- Drivers making illegal or unsafe turns
- Drivers making illegal or unsafe lane changes
- Drivers pulling out into traffic from a driveway or parking lot without looking
- Drivers entering an intersection directly in front of a bicyclist
Even with all of these obstacles to safe cycling in mind, however, driver disregard and driver distraction remain the two leading causes of fatal and injury-causing bicycle accidents in the Phoenix area.
Besides other drivers on the roadway, bicyclists also face additional concerns. There is a shortage of appropriate street warning signs as well as lanes designated for cyclists only. Both of these foster an environment where serious accidents involving bicycles are likely to take place.
