Tempe, AZ – Two Injured When Car Crashes Through Store at Mill Ave and Southern Ave

HomeBlogTempe, AZ – Two Injured When Car Crashes Through Store at Mill Ave and Southern Ave

Tempe, AZ (May 26, 2022) – One person was taken to the hospital after a driver accidentally drove their car through the front of a retail store in Tempe. The interior of the store also experienced considerable damage.

Officers from the Tempe Police Department said the incident occurred on Thursday, May 26th in the area of Southern Avenue and Mill Avenue when the vehicle’s driver mistakenly stepped on the accelerator rather than the brake pedal.

Two men, a sales associate and another employee, who were inside the business at the time of the crash were shoved 25 feet inside the store by the car. Both victims were transported to a local hospital in non-critical condition.

The owner says the store will be closed for about a week.

The driver, who was not charged in relation to the accident, was apprehended on an unrelated warrant.

Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family at this time. We hope for their full recovery.

Pedestrian Rights in Arizona

Arizona has the largest percentage of pedestrian fatalities nationwide. An article published by the Governor’s Highway Safety Association states that, in the first half of 2016, Arizona observed more than four pedestrian fatalities for every 100,000 residents.

It is clear that pedestrians in Arizona potentially face a great deal of peril when they step outside, but some pedestrians are more vulnerable than others.

The pedestrians most frequently involved in Phoenix car accidents include:

  • Those riding bicycles, running or jogging
  • Parents who are pushing strollers or in the company of small children
  • Senior citizens and young children

In addition, pedestrians who are listening to music or texting may not be as conscious of their surroundings and, therefore, are more likely to be involved in an accident. Drivers, however, are obligated to show the highest duty of care to pedestrians at all times. Even if a pedestrian is pushing a stroller or wearing headphones at the time of the incident, this does not mean they are automatically at fault.

When an accident happens, pedestrians have absolutely no safety features to guarantee their protection. They are completely exposed, making them prone to being critically or even fatally injured when they come into contact with a car.

There are many kinds of driver negligence, and nearly all of them have the ability to cause wrongful death, especially that of a pedestrian. Deadly crashes often happen at intersections when motorists neglect to yield at a crosswalk. Other frequent causes of wrongful deaths include drivers who are intoxicated, drivers who speed, and drivers who fail to notice pedestrians until it is too late because they are distracted or fatigued.
