Pedestrian Accident Injuries in Arizona

Pedestrians in Arizona are put in a precarious situation regularly, but some face a greater risk of harm than others.

In Phoenix, the following categories of pedestrians have the highest risk of being struck by a motor vehicle:

  • The elderly, as well as children
  • Parents who are out and about with their young children and are pushing strollers
  • Joggers and runners

The fatality rate for pedestrians is the highest in the country in the state of Arizona, which is located in the United States. According to a study that was published by the Governor’s Highway Safety Association, there were a total of 4.1 fatalities of pedestrians in the state during the first half of 2016, and this equated to 4.1 deaths for every 100,000 citizens.

In the event that an accident does take place, pedestrians do not have any protective elements to safeguard their safety. They are completely open to the elements, which puts them at risk of catastrophic or even deadly injuries in the event that they come into touch with a car.

Pedestrians who are more likely to be engaged in an accident include those who are texting or listening to music while walking since they may not be as aware of their surroundings. However, motorists have an obligation to exercise the highest possible level of care toward pedestrians at all times.
