Mesa, AZ – DUI Causes Double Fatal Accident on US-60 near Sossaman Rd

Mesa, AZ (August 17, 2022) – The Arizona Department of Public Safety responded to the scene after two people died during a two-vehicle crash on Wednesday, August 17th in Mesa.  

The collision took place at about 3:00 a.m. on US-60 in the area of Sossaman Road. An investigation determined that the driver of a Mercedes-Benz was speeding when they crashed into a pick-up truck, causing it to overturn onto its roof. 

The two occupants of the truck were ejected from the vehicle. Both sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. 

Investigators believe the Mercedes driver, 27-year-old Kimball Anthony Pardini, was impaired at the time of the incident. 

The identities of the deceased are being withheld pending family notification.  

Traffic in the area was affected for several hours.

In Arizona, it is unlawful to operate any kind of motor vehicle if your blood-alcohol content is greater than 0.08%. A driver’s BAC must be under this limit for a minimum of two hours prior to getting behind the wheel of an automobile.

Where the drivers of commercial vehicles, such as 18-wheelers, are concerned, their blood-alcohol content must be less than 0.04%.

It is also against the law in Arizona to operate any type of motor vehicle, including motorcycles, scooters, and mopeds, if you are under the influence. This means, that even if your blood-alcohol content is well under the legal limit, you cannot legally drive if you are showing signs of intoxication.
